The Moroccan leather industry is one that has long been held in high regard, and How2Go UK are proud to be working with AMDIE The Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development to showcase some of the country’s excellent leather manufacturing facilities to leather goods buyers in the UK from 15-17 June 2022.
Leather from Morocco, also known as Levant and Maroquin, was originally imported to Europe in the late 16th Century and was highly valued for luxury bookbindings because of its strength and ability to showcase gilding to its best advantage. Today the craftsmen and women in leather factories in Morocco turn their hands as well as their highly progressive machinery, to many more products, and some famous brand names frequently choose the country and its manufacturing prowess to produce some of their more exclusive lines.
A significant revenue source of the country, Leather has become one of the nations top export items, and is an essential part of Morocco’s history and trade. The name of the famous city of Marrakech derives from the word marroquin and so leatherwork is deeply entrenched in the soul of the country.
In a time where many companies are experiencing instability in their supply chains, AMDIE is promoting the suitability and stability of Moroccan manufacturing and placing great importance on the quality of suppliers from their country. The Tangier Med Port is just 14 kilometers from mainland Europe and has 184 direct connections with 71 countries and the capacity to work with 9 million containers a year, making access to products produced in Morocco simpler than ever before. The free trade agreements between Morocco and the UK, Ireland and the EU helps make sense of an ever changing import and export landscape. Stability of the supply chain is of utmost importance and there is support available to all who do business with companies in Morocco.
“The Tangier Med Port”
The Moroccan leather clothing and footwear industry is mostly oriented to the export sector and can provide differentiation, co-contracting and finished product to brands in the UK. The country has a business friendly environment, political stability, a resilient economy and many government incentives. For UK brands with an eye on sustainability, partnering with companies in Morocco would be partnering with a country who have an ambitious energy transition plan which will make Morocco one of the greenest and lowest carbon platforms in the world
